BREAKING NEWS: Raccoon "breaks" into home near Crown Point, Indiana. Emergency Animal Control call 877-264-3638.
Homeowner near Crown Point Indiana returns home from vacation to find their home in shambles. ® American Animal Control, LLC received a call from a past customer that had squirrels in the attic. After a extensive animal entry exclusion to prevent squirrels from entering the home several months ago, this Crown Point customer said it "looked like a burglar vandalized the home". This customer was certain that squirrels had returned and got back into the living quarters of the home. After receiving the call from this customer, with panic in his voice as he explained the animal damage, we assumed he had a raccoon in his house and not squirrels.
Many time homeowners will leave on vacation and forget to close the chimney damper in the fireplace. This leaves a straight shot for raccoons in the chimney to enter in the home. Especially if the chimney cap is damaged or missing. We always tell our customers that we strongly recommend that we install a chimney cap while we are doing a animal entry exclusion, as it was with this Crown Point area customer. We had recommended the installation of a chimney cap when we were doing the squirrel exclusion a few months back. The customer said they never had any animals or birds in the chimney in all the years they had been there, and that they were not interested in a chimney cap.

When our licensed wildlife removal specialist arrived at the customers home and confirmed it was not squirrels in the house, but a raccoon had came down the chimney and created one heck of a mess in the home. The raccoon then became "wedged" in an area that was on the other side of the chimney base. The standard catch pole was not long enough to reach it, so our animal removal service technician had to make some modifications and add some attachments to reach and remove the raccoon. After several unsuccessful attempts, the raccoon was finally removed from the chimney area. While climbing down the ladder with the raccoon on the end of the catch pole, our Crown Point animal control specialist was startled by guns shots. The home owner, that had a little too much to drink was at the base of the ladder firing his .22 cal pistol multiple times at the raccoon. Once down the ladder our service tech was approached by the customer who said "I just didn't want it to get away". Our service tech advised the homeowner, which was in a populated sub division, that is illegal to discharge a firearm in city limits, and hopefully the police would not be called out by the neighbors. The homeowner did not seem to think it was that big of deal. Our service tech told the customer he was going back up on the roof to close up the animal entry point around the chimney. Well, it was not long here came the flashing lights and the sirens. Our service tech was watching from the roof to see what might take place between the home owner and the police officer. All the sudden the gun shots started again. This time it was the police officer with a 9mm pistol. He said he had thought he saw the raccoon moving and "it was still alive". ® American Animal Control, LLC removes raccoons from homes every day.
